COVID-19

While everyone is excited and preparing to play baseball this season, we are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDC and Little League International released the following guidelines and safety precautions that need to be followed in order to make this season as safe as possible for all players and spectators:

  • All parents, coaches, guardians, and volunteers are to read and understand the attached COVID-19 Exposure Response Guidance.

  • All parents and guardians are responsible for temperature checks and to ensure no symptoms of COVID-19 (attached document) are present in any individual attending practice or a game - this goes for players and their fans.

  • A parent or guardian is to sign the COVID-19 Release Waiver (attached document) and return it to their child's coach PRIOR to their first team practice once we go to the Green Status. No player is permitted to practice until the waiver is handed in, NO EXCEPTIONS!!! The coaches will then get the documents to either their league Commissioner, the Safety Officer, or the League President for collection for the League District Office.

  • Parents are recommended to provide their children with antibacterial wipes and/or hand sanitizer to clean hands and personal equipment between innings. The league will also have wipes and hand sanitizer for each dugout to use during the games.

  • Players are recommended to wear cloth face masks while in the dugouts. Players will have the option to sit/stand with their parents/guardians outside of the playing field instead of the dugouts. It is then that adult's responsibility to have the player ready to bat or take the field when necessary.

  • All players are recommended to have their own glove, bat, helmet and catching gear when necessary and not to share any team equipment. Players should keep their equipment in their bags when not in use. Please make sure all equipment is labeled with the player's name on it for easy identification, this includes their hats, bats, gloves and drinks.

  • If a bat, helmet, or catching equipment needs to be shared, a coach or team parent must clean the equipment with a sanitizing wipe after each use.

  • During bat retrieval, grab bats by the barrel of the bat and not by the handle.

  • Each team will provide 2-3 balls to use while that team is on defense. These balls will be alternated each half inning to limit cross contact of balls between teams.

  • It's recommended that all coaches wear a cloth mask while in dugouts or in close contact with players on the field.

  • Maintain social distancing during the 'pregame plate meeting'

  • There will be no postgame handshakes. Teams will line up outside the dugouts and tip caps to opposing teams.

  • There will be no catcher in T-Ball. There will only be a catcher in Minor Farm division if a player has their own equipment or if a player would like to catch during the last 2 innings of the game. The coach will then sanitize the catching equipment after each game.

  • Abington Little League is unable to operate without a concession stand. The concession stand pays for the Umpire fees, mortgage on the property, and other field improvements. Since there were no major fundraisers this year, we are relying on the concession stand to cover our expenses and keep registration costs the same for next season. The stand will be open this season, but with additional safety precautions in place. All volunteers in the concession stand will need to wear a cloth face mask and gloves (gloves will be provided by the league).

  • New and additional hand sanitizing stations have been installed in all the windows of our concession stand. Sanitizing wipes will also be available from the concession stand. We are looking to purchase additional hand sanitizing stations for all dugouts once they become more readily available.

  • No Sunflower seeds or gum are permitted this season.

  • Spectators are encouraged to wear a cloth face mask if possible and maintain 6 feet social distancing. They are required to wear a mask when going to the concession stand or using the restrooms. It's also recommended that all spectators bring their own seating if possible.

  • Restrooms will be open for use and will be sanitized daily.

  • Umpires have the option to call balls and strikes from the pitchers mound or from behind the plate.

  • The Blue Metal picnic tables will be positioned to maintain the 6ft social distancing so we ask all spectators not to move them. They will be sanitized daily, however, we ask if anyone wants to use the tables, they wipe them down with a sanitizing wipe before use.

  • It's recommended that shared field equipment, such as rakes or brooms, are sanitized between use.

  • Playground equipment does not require disinfection, however, Abington Little League will clean frequently touched surfaces on a weekly schedule. Cleaning and disinfection of wooden surfaces (such as play structures, benches and tables) is not recommended.

  • All rules, recommendations and requirements are subject to change as needed or required by health officials.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us via email at info@abingtonlittleleague.com

Our main concern is the health and safety of each and every participant of Abington Little League. We are going to do our best to keep all the players, spectators, families, and friends safe during this baseball season. Everyone associated with this league from the Executive Board down to the coaches in all the divisions are volunteers. Please remember we will all be learning how to navigate through a social sport with social restrictions in order to ensure the health and safety of all involved.
